The player PIN is a security token issued by MySqueezebox.com (SN) for registering Squeezebox players.

"The first time a player is seen by SN it will be given a pin that you have to use once and your player is registred. If you unregister the player (or fails one attempt) you be given a new pin, it a sort of one off security token. So the pin number is not in your player, it is only given to you when you attempt to register." -- Mnyb [1]

"The pin numbers constantly change internally by the firmware. The number is only used once upon SN registration. The scheme is meant to prevent folks from registering someone's else's device. It serves as a proof of ownership at the time of registration. It has no other purpose otherwise and the fact that it keeps changing after registration is of no consequence to you. " -- y360 [2]
