Firewall - Windows Vista

From SqueezeboxWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Sometimes when you install SqueezeCenter, your Windows Vista Firewall may block it from communicating to your Squeezebox device. If you are only using the built-in Windows Firewall, you may need to add exceptions to this firewall to allow SqueezeCenter to communicate properly. If you have another Firewall or Security application, please refer to its manual or reference guide for help on how to add exceptions.

Reasons for Adding Exceptions

  • If you are not able to choose your computer running SqueezeCenter as a music source
  • If you are connected to SqueezeCenter, and you have no Audio (no timer activity, no VU)

Steps to Create exceptions in Windows Vista Firewall

  1. Click the Windows button (where the Start button used to be)
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Open Windows Firewall
  4. Click the "Change Settings" button
  5. Click the “Exceptions” tab
  6. Click the "Add Program" button
  7. Click "Browse..." and browse to "SqueezeCenter.exe" (in C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\Server by default)
  8. Click OK
  9. Click "Browse..." and browse to "Scanner.exe" (in C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\Server by default)
  10. Click OK
  11. Click "Browse..." and browse to "mysqld.exe" (in C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread)
  12. Click OK

Windows Vista - Advanced

If you are still not able to connect your Squeezebox to your computer running SqueezeCenter, you can try adding port exceptions to the Windows Vista Firewall. You will need to add an exception for the following four ports:

  1. Click the Windows button (where the Start button used to be)
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Open Windows Firewall
  4. Click the "Change Settings" button
  5. Add an exception for the following four ports by clicking the "Add Port" button
    1. Port number: 3483 (TCP) - Name: Server Control
    2. Port number: 3483 (UDP) - Name: ServerDiscovery
    3. Port Number: 9000 (TCP) - Name: Server Web
    4. Port Number: 9092 (TCP) - Name: Server MySQL

Try re-connecting your Squeezebox device to the computer running SqueezeCenter and see if the problem still exists

Note: The instructions above are based on a default installation of SqueezeCenter. If you have made any changes to the default installation, make sure you substitute them in the above instructions with their corresponding locations
