Firewall - Mac OS 10.5.x
From SqueezeboxWiki
Sometimes when you install SqueezeCenter, your Mac OS 10.5.x Firewall may block it from communicating to your Squeezebox device. If you are only using the built-in Mac OS 10.5.x Firewall, you may need to add rules to this firewall to allow SqueezeCenter to communicate properly. If you have another Firewall or Security application, please refer to its manual or reference guide for help on how to add rules (sometimes "rules" are referred to as "exceptions").
Reasons for Adding Rules to your Mac OS 10.5.x Firewall
- If you are not able to choose your computer running SqueezeCenter as a music source
- If you are connected to SqueezeCenter, and you have no Audio (no timer activity, no VU)
Steps to add Rules to Mac OS 10.5.x Firewall
- Open System Preferences
- Locate and click on "Security"
- Click "Firewall"
- Click “Set Access for specific services and applications”
- Click “Show All” at the top to view all your preferences
- Locate the "Other" section, and click "SqueezeCenter"
- If your server is currently running, click the “Stop Server” button (if not, move on to step 8)
- Click the “Start Server” button
- You will get a series of confirmations from your firewall asking if you want to allow access. Click “Allow” for each. (the dialogs will refer to “perl” and possibly “mDNSResponderPosix”)
Try re-connecting your Squeezebox device to the computer running SqueezeCenter and see if the problem still exists
